CRYORIG C5 & C5CU (REVIEW)

CRYORIG C5 & C5 CU

Cryorig's C5 and C5 CU are the first mainstream vapor chamber low profile CPU air coolers targeting the small form factor case market. Cryorig made some questionable claims hailing C5 as the king of low profile coolers.

FANS

Fan thickness measures roughly 20mm. 31mm including fan clips over the heatsink. The C5 heatsink measures roughly 30mmin height. At 3200RPM max speed, the C5 fan is extremely loud and may well take off.

TEST SYSTEM

Testing is carried out on the BC1 Mini (open testbench) in 23°C ambient room temperature.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

This is first vapor chamber low profile air cooler to our knowledge and while it did not beat the AXP90-X47 FC in our thermal testing, it performed reasonably well all things considered. The C5's accessories packaging design was a nice touch and well thought out. Unfortunately, I can not speak the same of the included fan in both its odd design and its noise output as 3200RPM.

Unfortunately, it did not quite live up to expectations on AM5 with high of 88°C for C5 CU, compared to 82°C for AXP90-X47 FC. I cannot comment on cooling performance on Intel platforms, which sometimes differ. You can find our full low profile benchmark charts here to see where the C5 roughly fits in.

On brighter note you can attach an NF-A9x14 or other slim 90mm fan to C5 heatsink bringing total height to around 44~45mm which some users may find useful. You will have to get little creative with attaching 3rd party fans to the C5 heatsink as it does not support standard fan mounting.

Overall I'm not sure what to make of the C5 coolers as they do not move the needle in terms of thermal performance compared to best low profile air coolers currently available.
